Photovoltaic Electricity
Photovoltaic panels use the suns light to produce electricity. The panel is made up of 'cells' of layers of silicon
which naturally produces electricity when exposed to light. The Cells don't have to be in direct
sunlight to work, it just needs to be light, preferably with no shading as this can impair performance
of the PV panel.
The amount of electricity produced from the panels depends on the size of the array (the
configuration of linked panels). A small system may be 10 square metres, providing basic help
with your electricity needs. Arrays of Photovoltaic panels can be bigger to provide more of your
electricity, or very large providing most of your electricity. The very large systems would often
be used on commercial buildings, such as petrol stations, schools, and supermarkets.
